Medak: Villagers of Sikindlapur in Shivvampet mandal caught and thrashed a youth after he allegedly attempted to sexually exploit a 10-year-old girl on Tuesday night.

Artists had organised a circus in the village, and most villagers had gathered at the venue to watch the show. Both the victim and the accused had attended the programme. Police said the accused, Cheguri Anjaneyulu (20), allegedly attempted to exploit the girl when she was returning home alone at night.

Hearing the girl’s cries, villagers rushed to the spot, rescued her and caught hold of the accused. The villagers beat him before handing him over to the Shivvampet police.

Police registered a case against the accused under provisions of the POCSO Act and other relevant sections of law. The girl was sent for medical examination to the government hospital in Narsapur.
Further investigation is under way.
