Media barred from inspection of ‘tunnel’ near Qutb Shahi tombs in Hyderabad
Army personnel stopped journalists from covering the inspection of a tunnel structure near the Qutb Shahi tombs in Hyderabad, seizing equipment from photographers and camerapersons. After prolonged appeals, the confiscated gear was returned, while 10 individuals were detained for alleged trespassing into the Army area
Hyderabad: Several media persons, including a Telangana Today photographer, were barred from covering the preliminary inspection of the ‘tunnel’ structure near the historic Qutb Shahi tombs at Golconda.
Even before capturing any images, Telangana Today photographer Surya Sridhar’s camera equipment was confiscated by the Army personnel deployed at the site and handed it over to the local law and order police.
After repeated pleas for over one hour, the equipment was released before taking details such as Aadhaar number and a photograph. Similar was the predicament of a vernacular Telugu news channel whose cameraperson’s equipment was taken away. As per reports, 10 individuals were detained on allegations of trespassing into the Army area.
