Jagtial: Former Information Commissioner Madabhushi Sridhar made it clear that support of media was necessary for the success of RTI Act. Sridhar participated in an awareness programme on RTI Act organized by Council of Citizen Rights in Padmanayaka function hall, Jagtial on Saturday.

Speaking on the occasion, he emphasized the need to utilize the RTI Act if the people wanted to live Indian independence as well as the constitution. It was possible to survive democracy if the constitution was live.

Stating that it was the responsibility of every citizen to protect democracy, he wanted both print and electronic media to support the people in their effort to save democracy. RTI activists should work for the benefit of the society.

There was a chance to seek information under the RTI Act on every government programme and scheme. Government would work better if RTI activists were more active, he opined. Later, he clarified doubts raised by the participants.

D Rajitha educated the participants on RTI Act and its sections. High Court advocates Ennampelli Gangadhar and Kompelli Suresh, and Jagtial bar association president T Surender also spoke.

CCR district convener A Srinivas Rao, state zonal secretaries Chukka Ganga Reddy and Venugopal and others participated in the awareness programme.
