Hyderabad: The TG-SAFE Drugs Wing along with the Eagle Force conducted a joint raid on a medical shop at Gajularamaram and found the alleged illegal sale of the habit-forming drug Tapentadol.

Following a tip-off, officials raided Mana Pharmacy and General Store, located at Mahadevapuram in Gajularamaram. The shop, run by Bhaskar, was allegedly selling Tapentadol tablets to teenagers in the surrounding areas.

During the inspection, officials found that Tapentadol tablets were being sold without prescriptions issued by Registered Medical Practitioners. The sales were allegedly made without bills and were not entered in the mandatory Schedule H1 Drug Register, in violation of the Drugs Rules, 1945.

Officials seized stocks of Tentadol-100 (Tapentadol 100 mg) along with purchase invoices, sale bill books and relevant registers for further examination.

Further investigation is on and authorities said legal action would be initiated against those found responsible. The Drugs Wing also warned medical shops against the unauthorised sale or diversion of Schedule H1 and other prescription medicines.

Tapentadol is an opioid painkiller prescribed for moderate to severe pain. As a Schedule H1 prescription medicine, it can be sold only against a valid prescription.

Authorities warned that its unauthorised diversion and misuse can result in dependence and serious health consequences.
