Meerpet police arrested six members of a pseudo police gang for allegedly posing as Special Operations Team personnel and extorting money from a lorry carrying rice. The gang reportedly collected Rs 80,000 and threatened the victims with criminal cases

Hyderabad: The Meerpet police on Tuesday arrested a six-member gang of pseudo policemen, who were allegedly extorting money from people.
The arrested are Aeka Sandeep Kumar (26), Devara Shetti Girish (35), Beeram Shiva Reddy (24), Rakesh Singh (30), Gantala Sai Ram Reddy (24) and Kakarla Pavan Sai (24). One of their associates, Anand, is absconding.
“The seven persons formed a gang and stopped a lorry loaded with rice. Posing as personnel of the Special Operations Team, they extorted Rs 80,000 from the victims. They also demanded an additional Rs 80,000 and threatened to book cases for illegal transportation of rice,” said B Shoban, Inspector, Meerpet police station.
Based on a complaint, the Meerpet police registered a case and arrested six persons, while the seventh accused is absconding.
