Hyderabad: Managing Director of Biological E. Limited, Mahima Datla and family, has emerged as the richest woman in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Her fortune amounted to Rs 7,700 crore, according to the IIFL Wealth Hurun India Rich List 2021 which was released recently.    

The list is a compilation of individuals in the country with a wealth of Rs 1,000 crore or more.  


The 44-year-old Mahima, who has a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration Management from Webster University, London, has been with Biological E since 2001.

Founded in 1948 by her grandfathers as Biological Products Pvt Ltd, the company started out by manufacturing Heparin, a drug to prevent blood clots. The company is working on four Covid-19 vaccine candidates, three of which it is co-developing with pharma companies.

The only other woman on the list is Chairperson and Non-Executive Director of NACL Industries, K Lakshmi Raju, with a wealth of Rs 1,000 crore. She is ranked 41st in the Telugu states while Datla and family secured the 15th spot.

69 individuals from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh figure in this year’s Hurun India Rich List. The cumulative wealth of those in the list, from the Telugu States stood at Rs 3,79,200 crore, which is an increase of 54 per cent compared to last year.
