A tense situation developed at Sri Shambulingeshwara Swamy temple at Mellacheruvu in the district when heated arguments took place between BJP district president Bobba Bhagya Reddy and TRS leaders.
Suryapet: Politics seems to be spilling over into temples in Suryapet district now, with the latest trend being leaders swearing before God that they had not done anything wrong.
In one such incident, a tense situation developed at Sri Shambulingeshwara Swamy temple at Mellacheruvu in the district when heated arguments took place between BJP district president Bobba Bhagya Reddy and TRS leaders. Responding to allegations leveled by Huzurnagar MLA Shanampudi Saidi Reddy that he had taken money from a private company to speak in its favour at a public hearing on leasing of limestone mines, Bhagya Reddy came to the temple to swear before God that he had not taken any benefits from the private company.
Local TRS leaders, who came to know about his response, rushed to the temple and picked up an argument with Bhagya Reddy and BJP members which led to mild tension.
Mellacheruvu police arrested the leaders of both the parties, shifted them to the police station and brought the situation under control.
