Peddapalli: Mild tension prevailed at Godavarikhani Singareni Area hospital when the family members and relatives of contract worker Thota Srikanth, who died in Adriyal Longwall Project accident, staged a dharna demanding Singareni management to provide Rs 1 crore compensation.

Bodies of Area Safety Officer S Jayaraj, Deputy Manager Tejawath Chaitanya Teja and contractor worker Srikanth, who died in the mine accident, were shifted to Godavarikhani Singareni hospital for postmortem. Family members and relatives of Srikanth gathered in big numbers at the hospital and staged a protest demanding Rs 1 crore compensation and job to the kin of the deceased.

As Singareni management failed to respond positively, they tried to stage a dharna along with the dead body. However, police foiled their attempt. The relatives jostled with the police when they tried to take it to the mortuary.

The Singareni management held talks with the representatives of trade unions and family members of the deceased. Finally, Singareni promised to pay Rs 30 lakh and provide a job to the kin of the deceased. Srikanth, who joined in the company as contract worker two months ago, underwent training for 18 days in Vocational Training Center. On Monday, he was sent to Adriyal Longwall Project to take part in roof support work.
