Jagtial: A minor girl died after giving birth to a stillborn in Dharmapuri. Though this bizarre incident took place on October 10, it came to light on Monday when police extricated the bodies from the cemetery on Monday.
According to police the 16-year-old, a native of Harijana Colony and a Class VI dropout, got pregnant after an unknown person abused her sexually some months ago. When she did not get her menstrual period for four months and developed stomach-ache, the girl informed her mother Bhagyavva, who took her to hospital. After conducting a test, the doctor confirmed that the girl was pregnant. Subsequently, the girl was kept in isolation in a room in the house.
On October 9 midnight, she developed labour pain and gave birth to a stillborn when she went to the bathroom. Bhagyavva cut the umbilical cord with a knife. After a few minutes, the girl, who was in an unconscious state after giving birth to the baby, also died.
Without informing the matter to police, Bhagyavva with the help of locals, buried both the bodies on the banks of river Godavari.
Municipal staff, who found the people burying the bodies, informed the police. Dharmapuri police led by Sub Inspector Srikanth and Tahsildhar Ravinder on Monday extricated the bodies in the presence of Tahsildhar Ravinder and sent them to a hospital for post-mortem.
SI Srikanth said a case had been registered investigations are on.
Bhagyavva has two daughters, and the deceased is the younger daughter. She brought up her daughters working as a daily wage labourer after the death of her husband Laxman five years ago.
