According to the police, one person entered into the Chowdhamma temple located at Jokul village around midnight and damaged three idols of deities.

The man identified as Saleem Arman, a native of Maharashtra came to Hyderabad a few months ago and was living on footpaths. “On Saturday night, he went into the temple and took away some articles kept there. He then damaged the idols in the temple,” said DCP (Shamshabad), B Rajesh.

The locals meanwhile caught hold of the man after finding him inside the temple and thrashed him before handing him over to the police.

The local Hindu organisations reached the spot and staged protest demanding action against the suspect. They claimed a group of people had entered into the temple and vandalized the place.

The DCP said that Saleem, was previously involved in a theft case and arrested in Maharashtra. “We are investigating the case from all angles,” said the official.
