Hyderabad: During Thursday’s Legislative Assembly session, Malkajgiri MLA Marri Rajasekhar Reddy highlighted the property-related issues being faced by residents of Malkajgiri constituency.

The MLA brought to the attention of the House that 76 colonies, spanning an area of approximately 384 acres within the constituency limits, were declared as “Waqf Board properties” and subsequently included in the prohibited list under Section 22-A by the Registration Department in 2024.

He stated that, as a result of this decision, approximately 18,000 homeowners are facing severe hardship. Homeowners who already possess Property Tax (PTI) numbers are encountering significant obstacles in fulfilling essential needs such as obtaining bank loans, mortgaging their properties, selling their homes or constructing additional floors.

Due to the lack of a resolution to this issue, residents are being compelled to approach the courts. He urged the government to immediately provide a clear clarification regarding whether or not the lands in question are, in fact, Waqf Board properties.

He requested that the government take appropriate measures to ensure that property transactions proceed smoothly, thereby alleviating the difficulties currently faced by the public.
