Hyderabad: BRS MLC Dasoju Sravan on Wednesday accused Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy of creating uncertainty around Hyderabad Metro Rail expansion and raised doubts over the Congress government’s strategy. He demanded that the Chief Minister disclose details of agreements and funding proposals linked to Metro Phase-II.

Addressing a press conference at Telangana Bhavan, Sravan said that while the previous BRS government completed 75 per cent of the Phase-I Hyderabad Metro Rail project, the present Congress government had weakened the project through policy confusion and politicisation. He alleged that the government had shelved the proposed Metro connectivity from Hitech City to the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport soon after coming to power and was now prioritising Metro expansion towards the proposed Future City.

Questioning the government’s approach, he asked whether Revanth Reddy had formally taken up Metro-related issues with the Centre. He sought details of discussions with agencies, including the Japanese organisation mentioned recently by the Chief Minister, involved in funding the project.

He also questioned the government’s arrangement with the Indian Railway Finance Corporation (IRFC), asking whether any Cabinet decision had been taken regarding Metro financing arrangements.

The BRS MLC sought clarity on around 280 acres of land earmarked for Metro development, alleging that the government was treating urban infrastructure planning as a real-estate exercise. He also raised concerns over the long-term operational and maintenance plans for the Metro network, asking how the government planned to maintain 57 Metro stations across the city.

Accusing the Congress government of lacking a coherent strategy for Hyderabad’s public transport, Sravan said the Chief Minister should focus on securing approvals and funding for Metro expansion instead of engaging in a political blame game with the Centre.

“Why is the Chief Minister blaming Union Minister G Kishan Reddy and writing letters to him? Can’t Revanth Reddy write to Prime Minister Narendra Modi directly? What are the Congress MPs doing if they are not able to pursue the State’s projects with the Centre?” he asked.
