MLRIT’s Team Garudadhwaj wins Chairman’s Special Award
Team Garudadhwaj from MLRIT's Department of Mechanical Engineering won the Chairman's Special Award at the BAJA SAEINDIA Chennai Finals 2026. The national engineering competition tests students' design, manufacturing and project management skills through all-terrain vehicle development.

Hyderabad: Team Garudadhwaj, the SAE m-BAJA team from the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Marri Laxman Reddy Institute of Technology (MLRIT), won the prestigious Chairman’s Special Award at the BAJA SAEINDIA Chennai Finals 2026, held at Hindusthan College of Engineering & Technology, Coimbatore.
BAJA SAEINDIA (Society of Automotive Engineers, India) is one of the country’s premier engineering design competitions, where undergraduate students design, fabricate and race single-seat all-terrain vehicles (ATVs).
Organised by the SAEINDIA Southern Section (SAEISS), the competition provides students with valuable hands-on experience in engineering design, manufacturing, teamwork, project management and innovation, while strengthening their industry readiness.
Marri Rajashekar Reddy, Founder Secretary, MLRIT and MLA, Malkajgiri, highlighted the significance of SAE competitions in developing students’ core engineering competencies and enhancing their career prospects.
MLRIT Chairman Marri Laxman Reddy, Secretary Marri Anushreya Reddy, Vice Chairman Marri Dhiren Reddy, Director Dr V Radhika Devi and Principal Dr SVS Prasad congratulated Mechanical HoD Dr Venkateshwar Reddy and Team Garudadhwaj of the Mechanical Engineering Department on their outstanding achievement.
