Hyderabad: Describing the Modi-led BJP government at the Centre as anti-farmer, Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Minister Errabelli Dayakar Rao on Thursday said the Centre’s latest move of revising fertilisers prices was a testimony of its anti-farmer policies.
He said Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao has already written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and has commenced an agitation against the anti-farmer policies of the Central government.
“Telangana is leading the charts of States that are working for farming community’s welfare and development. Is there any measure by the Centre which benefited the farming community?” asked Dayakar Rao.
Telangana government has been appealing to the Central government to link agriculture with MGNREGA scheme for the past five years. There has been no response from the Centre, he said, adding that the Central government had withdrawn farm laws but was continuing to cause problems for farmers by revising the fertilizer prices.
Hits out at Congress
Lashing at the State Congress unit, the Minister said it was during the Congress regime that the entire Sriram Sagar ayacut got parched. “In the past, did the Congress Government supply sufficient power to the farming community?” he asked.
“TPCC president A Revanth Reddy, when he was in Telugu Desam Party, staged protests against the Congress government for its failure to supply power to industries and agriculture sector. Now, he is boasting about Congress government’s achievements,” pointed out Dayakar Rao.
The agriculture sector was ruined because of both Congress and BJP. Leaders from these parties should desist from making false statements on the Telangana government and discuss welfare measures, if any, in Congress and BJP ruled States, he demanded.
“BJP State unit president Bandi Sanjay Kumar should mind his language. He keeps commenting that BJP would arrest the Chief Minister. Forget about arresting, I dare you to touch the Chief Minister. People will chase away BJP leaders,” warned Dayakar Rao, adding that Telangana would continue its agitation till the Centre withdraws its orders to increase fertilizer prices.
