Hyderabad: The newly developed Charlapalli terminal, aimed at decongesting the city’s main stations at Secunderabad, Nampally and Kacheguda, was inaugurated on Monday. Redeveloped at a cost of Rs 430 crore on a par with airports, the Charlapalli terminal is equipped with contemporary amenities and will alleviate traffic burden for nearly 50,000 rail passengers, reducing their travel hassles.
The terminal, which Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated on Monday, is already a halting point for nearly 25 pairs of trains, enabling 50 trains to operate daily. It is equipped with modern amenities including lifts, escalators, 9 platforms and huge parking spaces.
Speaking at the event, the Prime Minister highlighted its potential to accelerate regional development by connecting to the Outer Ring Road. “This station, connected to the Outer Ring Road, will significantly boost development in the region,” he stated.
He also highlighted the station’s modern amenities including its platforms, lifts, escalators, solar-powered operations and how the new terminal will ease the pressure on existing stations in Secunderabad, Hyderabad, and Kacheguda, making travel more convenient for the people.
Many trains are expected to commence from Charlapalli since the existing railway stations at Secunderabad, Hyderabad and Kacheguda are already saturated due to huge inflow and outflow of traffic. The facility has been planned and developed to meet the growing requirements of the city’s population for the next 50 years.
The new station building with a modern architectural facade has six booking counters, separate waiting halls for women and men, an upper-class waiting area and an executive lounge on the ground floor. The first floor will house a cafeteria, restaurant, feeding cabins for mothers and restroom facilities for both women and men.
A total of 19 tracks have been provided, ensuring faster travel to key destinations. Trains bound for Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata, and Visakhapatnam will now operate from Charlapalli, easing congestion at Secunderabad station.
Among the trains starting from Charlapalli are Gorakhpur-Secunderabad Express, MGR Chennai Central-Hyderabad Express and Shalimar-Hyderabad East Coast Express. Trains like the Guntur-Secunderabad Golconda Express and Secunderabad-Sirpur Kagaznagar Express will also stop at Charlapalli.
Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw joined the inaugural virtually while Union Minister G Kishan Reddy, MP from Malkajgiri Etela Rajender and others were present on the site.
