HYDERABAD: Triggering a controversy, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy said Prime Minister Narendra Modi was not a born Backward Class (BC) member but was a legally converted BC.

In fact, till 2002, Narendra Modi was an upper caste member. After becoming the Chief Minister, he included his caste in the list of BCs, the Chief Minister said at Gandhi Bhavan here on Friday. “Modi is not BC, but a legally converted BC. I am not making vague comments and I have thoroughly checked about Modi’s caste. Now, it is up to you (people)” Revanth Reddy said.

He demanded that the Prime Minister conduct a nationwide socio-economic and caste survey along with population census to enumerate castes and sub-castes and their socio-economic conditions.

Further, the Chief Minister accused the opposition parties of misleading people over the socio-economic caste survey conducted by the Telangana government. The caste survey was conducted in all aspects and in a transparent manner. The opposition parties were conducting false campaign to derive political mileage, he maintained.

For the convenience of households, who could not participate in the first phase of the survey, the government was conducting a re-survey and people should make good use of the opportunity, he said.

“BRS supremo K Chandrashekar Rao, former Ministers KT Rama Rao and T Harish Rao had not participated in the first survey. They should participate in the resurvey, if not, they should be ostracised,” Revanth Reddy said.

Earlier while addressing the Youth Congress leaders at the same venue, the Chief Minister said the BJP led union government was discriminating against Telangana. Funds and projects were being sanctioned to Gujarat and Bihar States, while no support was being extended to Metro phase II, River Musi rejuvenation and other projects. union Minister G Kishan Reddy and Bandi Sanjay should give an explanation, he demanded.

“An action plan is being worked out to wage a war against the Prime Minister,” he added.
