Nirmal: Newly appointed Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president A Revanth Reddy flayed the Union government on Monday for the rising fuel and LPG cylinder prices in the country.

Addressing a protest rally organised by the Congress against the fuel price hike, Revanth said except for India, all other countries are charging less than Rs 100 per litre of petrol or diesel. He alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had looted Rs 36,000 crore from the public by way of levying taxes on fuel. “While crude oil has become cheaper in the international market, the fuel prices have continued to skyrocket in our country. Is this justifiable?” he asked.

The TPCC chief also slammed the Centre for increasing the price of LPG cylinders from Rs 400 to Rs 800. He said Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar can waive taxes collected on fuel and come to the rescue of the public. Alleging that the State government had not fulfilled its poll promises, he said no one benefitted from the State formation.

Earlier, he was received by former Nirmal MLA A Maheshwar Reddy and DCC president Ramarao Patel on his maiden visit arrival to Nirmal.

In Khammam, CLP leader Bhatti Vikramarka also accused the BJP government of failing to control prices of fuel and essential commodities, and questioned how the government could increase fuel prices even as the Covid-9 pandemic hit people financially.

Diesel prices have been scaling new peaks every few weeks ever since the BJP came to power at the Centre, he said, adding that the price hike is affecting the common man adversely as it led to an increase in the prices of essential commodities.

Vikramarka demanded Modi to include petroleum products in the GST regime to keep prices under control. Since the Modi government came to power, there had been an above 50% increase in the prices of all essential commodities.
