Hyderabad: BJP Telangana State in-charge Tarun Chug on Tuesday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi was striving for the welfare of the poor in the country, providing free cooking gas and constructing toilets apart from opening bank accounts on their names.
Addressing party activists after welcoming Congress leader Palvai Harish Kumar and others from Sirpur Kagaznagar into the party, he said the Prime Minister was relentlessly working for the uplift of poor since 2014. The NDA government provided free cooking gas connections to more than 11 crore people under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana and built 10 crore toilets under Swachh Bharat Mission.
As many as 40 crore bank accounts have been opened under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY). The NDA government supplied foodgrains to over 80 crore people to help them tide over the lockdown phase during Covid-19, he said.
Chug said every scheme introduced by the Prime Minister was aimed at benefitting the poor in the country.
However, the State government was creating hurdles in the implementation of Central schemes in the State, he alleged, adding that the BJP would continue the fight started in GHMC election against the government and the party activists would play a key role in it.
