Siddipet: Finance Minister T Harish Rao took serious objection to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s comments on Andhra Pradesh bifurcation in Rajya Sabha on Tuesday. Denouncing the Prime Minister for saying that Andhra Pradesh was divided against the spirit of Samkhya, Rao said that the BJP acted against the spirit of Samkhya as they had failed to keep the promise of creating Telangana post-BJP victory in 1999 Parliament elections. He said that BJP came to power by passing ‘one vote two States’ resolution in the Kakinada meeting before the 1999 elections.
Speaking at a meeting in Husnabad town, the Minister said that the BJP government had acted against the spirit of Samkhya in 2014 by merging seven mandals from Telangana with Andhra Pradesh without proper consultation and acceptance of Telangana government. He lashed at the Modi government for handing over the lower Sileru Hydro project to Andhra Pradesh hours before Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao’s swearing-in ceremony in 2014. Had the BJP led government created Telangana between 1999-2004, Rao said that hundreds of people from Telangana would not have sacrificed their lives. Even if the Congress-led government had kept its promise in 2009, Rao said that hundreds of Telangana youth would not have ended their lives during the Statehood movement.
Harish Rao said that Modi is worried as Telangana is constantly achieving more development than Gujarat. Elaborating various welfare schemes and developments projects undertaken by Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao led government since 2014, Harish Rao said Telangana people did not get such benefits when they were in the united Andhra Pradesh. Condemning Narendra Modi’s comments, Rao said the Modi government had failed to keep the promise of setting up Bayyaram Steel Plant, Tribal University and granting of Rs 900 crore towards backward areas development in Telangana following the guidelines of Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act-2014.
