Mohalla Library inaugurated at The Star School in Hyderabad’s AC Guards
A Mohalla Library was launched at The Star School, AC Guards, as part of a grassroots literacy movement started by Maryam Mirza and her father. The initiative empowers children by making books accessible and encouraging them to manage the libraries themselves
Hyderabad: A Mohalla Library was set up on Tuesday at The Star School, located at AC Guards in the city.
The library was set up as part of the Mohalla Library Movement started by Maryam Mirza and her father, Mirza Abdul Qayyum Nadwi, President of the Read and Lead Foundation. The movement began in Aurangabad nearly five years ago to create a network of libraries for children from the underprivileged communities.
“Through the library, reading material is made accessible to local children and fosters a passion for literacy,” said Mirza Abdul Qayyum Nadvi. The libraries are managed by the children themselves, which instills a sense of ownership and responsibility. This approach focuses on making books readily accessible to children who might not otherwise have them.
The inauguration was attended by Zukekha Hussain, an international journalist, Khizer Hussain, SA Majeed Bedar, Urdu writer and critic and Director of Development for the Muslim Political Action Organisation, and others.
