MOHFW report explains Telangana, Andhra Pradesh population projections
The Technical Group on Population Projections separated Telangana and Andhra Pradesh populations by disaggregating 2011 Census data. Combined fertility and mortality rates from the Sample Registration System were applied to create historical and projected population figures for both states.
Hyderabad: The Technical Group on Population Projections, which prepared the reports for MOHFW, followed a two-step approach to separate the population data of TS and AP.
They first established the ‘re-casted populations’ of Telangana and the residual Andhra Pradesh, which involved disaggregating the 2011 Census data based on the new administrative boundaries defined at the time of bifurcation.
For all the years preceding the state formation in 2014, the group relied on the combined Sample Registration System (SRS) estimates of fertility and mortality for undivided Andhra Pradesh, and then applied these combined rates to the separate, re-casted population bases of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh to generate the historical and initial projected data.
