Siddipet: Monkey menace continues to haunt farmers. While many farmers had already stopped cultivating fruits and vegetables fearing monkey invasion, the simians have started feeding on paddy nurseries as well.

Farmer Nellutla Kanakaiah, who went to his paddy nursery on the outskirts of Nanganur, was left in shock as he found dozens of monkeys feeding on the paddy nursery and damaging the saplings. He had sown a nursery sufficient for two acres. While he was preparing to take up transplantation in 20 days, the monkey invasion dashed his hopes.

It is not the story of Kanakaiah alone, as the simians have posed a serious threat to paddy nurseries in Nanganur mandal. Whenever the monkeys do not find enough food, they invade paddy nurseries and other crops. Kanakaiah said that the farmers in the village had stopped raising fruits and vegetables fearing monkey invasion.

He further said that farmers had also stopped growing fruit-bearing plants in the backyards of their houses since the monkeys would not only eat the fruits but also damage houses and attack people. He urged the government to capture all the monkeys in Nanganur and release them deep into the forest to save the farmers.
