Monkeys poisoned to death, buried in Khammam
It was said a person who works at the local lorry owners’ association office, poisoned the monkeys with an intention to kill and buried them in an open land at Kistaram circle near the office on Sunday.
Khammam: A large number of monkeys were poisoned and buried in an open land. The incident, said to have happened on Sunday, came to light on Monday.
It was said a person who works at the local lorry owners’ association office, poisoned the monkeys with an intention to kill them and buried them in an open land at Kistaram circle near the office on Sunday. The local gram panchayat personnel allegedly cleaned the area to cover up the incident.
The locals alleged that when they took the matter to the notice of forest officials, they reportedly stated that monkeys do not fall under their jurisdiction and did not take any action. Then the locals and a BJP leader N Ramalingeshwar Rao lodged a complaint with the Sathupalli police.
Following the complaint, Kallur ACP A Raghu and Sathupalli Inspector T Kiran, with the help of a veterinary doctor Safuya, conducted tests on the carcasses of the monkeys. Ramalingeshwar Rao demanded action against a person Saidulu for allegedly poisoning the monkeys and asked the officials to ensure treatment for the other monkeys that fell sick due to poisoning.
The exact number of monkeys that died due to poisoning was yet to be known.
