Hyderabad: The wind gods abandoned the 16th Monsoon Regatta on Day 5, leaving all positions unchanged at Hussain Sagar Lake here on Friday.
With four races to go in the 12-race series, the teams were waiting on shore for the weather to show up. Unfortunately, the depression in the Bay of Bengal did not show its impact on Hussain Sagar.
Mr. B. Saidulu, IFS, Secretary, and Mr. G. Tirupathi, Joint Secretary, BC Residential Schools, presided over an awards ceremony for non-ranking classes and gave away the prizes to many young sailors from various villages of Telangana. These sailors have been training at the Yacht Club for the past two months as part of Telangana’s Asian Games talent identification campaign.
If the weather does not show any signs of improvement, the sailors lucky enough to be at the top of the leaderboard have reason to cheer, as they will effortlessly retain their current podium positions.
The coveted Monsoon Regatta Trophy and the SH Babu Memorial Trophy, without any discard, alongside a plethora of medals and trophies, are up for grabs at the awards function. Mr. Sarfaraz Ahmad, Metropolitan Commissioner, will be the chief guest at 4 p.m. on Sunday.
