More rain in store for Hyderabad

Hyderabad: Several parts of the city witnessed light to moderate rainfall since afternoon on Sunday. Though the city woke up to overcast skies, the weather changed by noon with some areas seeing a drizzle, while a few others had a heavy spell of rain. In some places where the downpour was continuous and heavy, the low lying areas were inundated.

The rains, however, failed to dampen the Ganesh idol immersion procession that across the city with devotees joining in large numbers braving the weather conditions. The maximum temperature of 30.8 degree Celsius was recorded today in the city, whereas the minimum was 26 degree Celsius.


Many areas including Uppal, Rajendranagar, Malkajgiri, Ramachandrapuram, Charminar and Hayathnagar received up to 39.5 mm rainfall.

According to data recorded at various Automatic Weather Stations (AWS) by Telangana State Development Planning Society (TSDPS), the northern parts of the city – including Kapra, Quthbullapur, Malkajgiri, Alwal, Kukatpally and parts of Secunderabad Cantonment area – will receive rainfall between 15.6 mm and 64.5 mm for the next two days.

The rest of Hyderabad will also witness light rainfall in the coming two days. The maximum temperature in the city during the period is expected to be in the range of 31 to 33 degree Celsius, while the minimum temperature will be in the range of 21 to 23 degree Celsius.

According to IMD forecast, there is a cyclonic circulation over Northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas of northern Odisha-West Bengal-Bangladesh coasts. The officials have also issued a ‘yellow alert’ for several districts of the State.

Meanwhile, several districts witnessed heavy rains on Sunday. Ghatkesar in Medchal-Malkajgiri recorded the highest rainfall in the state of 85.3 mm. Other districts including Rangareddy, Mancherial, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri and Jangaon also received heavy rainfall.
