Mahabubabad: A married woman allegedly killed her two children and later died by suicide at Lingaiah thanda in Kuravi mandal in the district on Saturday.
According to police, Banoth Anusha (26) took her daughter Varshini (9) and son Vishal Krishna (4) to an agricultural well on the outskirts of the thanda. She allegedly pushed the two children into the well and later jumped into it, killing herself.
Police said that when Anusha did not return home by the evening, family members began searching for her. They later found the three bodies in the well. According to locals Anusha married Naveen ten years ago. Anusha’s father and brother died a few years ago, leaving her mother alone.
Naveen and Anusha were living at her parents’ house with their children and running a grocery shop. There had been frequent quarrels between the couple due to financial problems over the past few months. Recently, the elders organised a panchayat and advised Naveen to stay away from his in-laws’ house.
Financial problems and family disputes might have forced Anusha to resort to the extreme step, the locals said. Upon receiving information, Mahabubabad Rural Circle Inspector Anjali and Kuravi Sub-Inspector B Sathish reached the spot and took up an investigation into the incident.
