Motorcycling workshop for women held in Hyderabad
While about six women went on their first-ever bike ride, the remaining attended a class on how to operate a bike, how to lift a bike, and the different components of a bike, among other things.
Hyderabad: The OU PG College at SP Road had a different kind of atmosphere on Sunday as it resonated with horn sounds and roaring of bikes. No, this wasn’t some bikers group having a fun Sunday meet up but about 50 to 60 women from different age groups trying their hand on learning a motorbike.
While about six women went on their first-ever bike ride, the remaining attended a class on how to operate a bike, how to lift a bike, and the different components of a bike, among other things.
This was all happening as part of a two-hour orientation programme and workshop organised by Lets Ryde Academy for women bikers in Hyderabad. While six of these women had already attended their workshop with the academy and went on a short ride, about 50-odd women from different age groups where introduced to what would entail if they enrolled with the training.
“I have always been enthused about riding a bike and knowing everything about it. As soon as I entered the hall I saw it jam packed and it just boosted my enthusiasm even more. I am thrilled to know that one can learn to ride a bike in just four days,” Vandana Nambiar (45) who is a pro at driving a car.
The four days training focuses on total bike parts explanation, gear shifting and balancing, circling around on the bike and finally the bikers can test their skills on road and traffic. “In case anyone has any problems even after four days of training we provide two more days of training as per their needs,” says Ramu, on-ground trainer with Lets Ryde Academy.
The academy is founded by Kuldeep Sharma and Amit Saini and the former was the trainer at the two-hour teaching programme. As part of the workshop, learners are provided with gears, helmets and knee-guard.
“Whenever I used to ask my friends or family members to teach me, they used to tell me that it is very heavy and I will not be able to handle it. This workshop focused on all aspects of riding a bike and now I plan to go on short 50 to 100 km trips to build more confidence,” says Neerja who has completed the training.
