MRDCL orders study on STPs at Mir Alam Tank to stop sewage discharge

MRDCL Managing Director EV Narasimha Reddy directed HMWSSB to prepare a study on sewage treatment infrastructure at Mir Alam Tank to prevent untreated sewage discharge. He also reviewed bridge construction and instructed officials to accelerate both bridge and lake restoration works.

Hyderabad: The Musi Riverfront Development Corporation Limited (MRDCL) Managing Director EV Narasimha Reddy inspected the ongoing works on the new bridge across Mir Alam Tank and the surrounding lake-cleaning operations on Monday.

Accompanied by senior officials from MRDCL and the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB), Narasimha Reddy reviewed the physical progress of the bridge.

With piling work now over 40 per cent complete and progress on pile caps, piers and pier caps moving steadily, he instructed the contractor to deploy additional machinery and manpower to speed up construction.

The senior MRDCL official directed Water Board officials to prepare a comprehensive study to optimise the existing sewage conveyance system, the two catchment Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) and pumping capacity.

The study aims to eliminate the discharge of untreated sewage into Mir Alam Tank by separating stormwater drains from sewage channels and incorporating planned or ongoing pipeline projects in the upstream and downstream areas.

Additionally, Narasimha Reddy directed officials to begin lake-cleaning works immediately alongside the bridge construction, setting a common completion deadline for both. Development of the lake’s two islands will also proceed simultaneously to meet this timeline, the official release said.
