Hyderabad: The Mukarram Jah Trust for Education and Learning (MJTEL) will soon take up the restoration of the Sixth Palace at Purani Haveli, with the project expected to expand the intake capacity of Mukarram Jah School and support educational activities on its historic campus.
Nawab M.A. Faiz Khan, Trustee of MJTEL, announced this at the school’s 39th Founder’s Day celebrations. He said restoration of the Asaf Jahi wing had been completed, except for minor finishing works, and added, “Restoration of the Sixth Mahal is being initiated soon and is scheduled for completion by next year, which will enable the institution to increase its intake capacity.”
The Purani Haveli campus also houses the Nizam Museum, which has the famed longest wooden wardrobe in the world. The palace was the official residence of the Sixth Nizam, Nawab Mir Mehboob Ali Khan.
Faiz Khan said the heritage campus provided a unique opportunity to combine conservation with education. He said Nawab Mukarram Jah Bahadur had donated the palace complex to educational trusts, continuing the tradition of philanthropic patronage.
