Adilabad: Mukhra (K), a model village in Echoda mandal won Deen Dayal Upadhyay Panchayat Shashaktikaran Purashkar-2022, a national award for effectively implementing various schemes. The awards were declared by the Centre on Saturday. Mukhra (K) is the only village to achieve the award in erstwhile Adilabad district.
Expressing happiness at being chosen for the award, Sarpanch Gadge Meenakshi thanked Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao and Panchayat Raj minister Errabelli Dayakar Rao for encouraging the village in many ways. She said that the State was implementing many innovative schemes that help rural civic bodies achieve self-empowerment. She added that Mukhra (K) earned the recognition of the Centre with the help of the schemes.
Union Jal Shakti minister Gajendra Singh Sekhawat termed Mukhra (K) village in Echoda mandal as a role model to the country. He felicitated the village’s sarpanch Gadge Meenakshi by specially inviting her to his residence in New Delhi in March. Telangana Chief Minister Chandrashekhar Rao, while recollecting the success of many initiatives implemented by the government, said that Mukhra (K) Sarpanch Gadge Meenkashi was one of the four villages that stood in the top position in excelling in many aspects.
Dwelled by a population of 750, the village achieved open defecation-free tag by constructing toilets in all households. Two dust bins were given to every family as part of sanitation measures and consumption of liquor is voluntarily prohibited. The dwellers resolved to send their children only to government-run schools. Local public representatives ensured 3-acre cultivatable land to all Dalit families of the village.
The residents of the tiny habitation planted 30,000 saplings in open spaces, palle prakriti vanam and on the premises of every house. They had planted 3,500 saplings to mark the birthday of Information Technology minister K Taraka Rama Rao and 26,500 saplings on either sides of a road and other places, as part of Green India challenge conceived by Rajya Sabha member J Santosh Kumar.
