Mulugu: Unidentified persons allegedly dug up the premises of the Gollalla Gudi, an ancient temple situated next to Ramappa Temple, which is recognized by UNESCO as a world heritage site. The treasure hunters destroyed several precious idols on the premises of the temple in Palampeta village of Venkatapur mandal of the district.
According to reports, the miscreants not only dug up the premises of the temple, but also destroyed the roof of the temple. They also dug up around the temple in search of hidden treasure. Several idols were destroyed by the miscreants in the process of digging. A ladder used by them was found at the temple along with many items used for digging.
Gollalla Gudi was taken over by Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) in 2021. The ASI officials came to know about the matter late and lodged a complaint with the Venkatapur police on Sunday. A case has been registered and investigation is underway.
