Hyderabad: Mumbai-based vegetarian restaurant chain Shiv Sagar has expanded to Hyderabad with the launch of its newest outlet in Jubilee Hills, bringing with it a culinary legacy spanning more than four decades.
Established in 1981 by entrepreneur Shankar Rama Poojary, the brand has grown into one of Mumbai’s most recognised vegetarian restaurant chains. Beginning with modest resources, Poojary built Shiv Sagar into a popular destination known for introducing Mumbai street-food favourites and multi-cuisine vegetarian dining to mainstream restaurant culture.
At a time when traditional Udupi restaurants largely focused on South Indian dishes such as idli, dosa, upma and sheera, Shiv Sagar emerged as one of the early restaurant brands to serve dishes including pav bhaji, faloodas, North Indian cuisine and Indo-Chinese offerings under one roof.
Over the years, the restaurant has become widely known for its Bombay-style pav bhaji, Mumbai-style pizzas topped with Amul cheese, faloodas, dry fruit milkshakes and Indo-Chinese favourites such as Chinese Bhel and Chilli Idli.
The Hyderabad outlet aims to bring the brand’s signature Mumbai flavours to a city known for its vibrant food culture while also catering to local tastes.
Speaking on the launch, Shridhar S. Poojary said Hyderabad’s appreciation for diverse flavours and dining experiences made Jubilee Hills an ideal location for the brand’s expansion.
With its Hyderabad debut, Shiv Sagar aims to recreate the warmth, nostalgia and customer loyalty that have defined the brand in Mumbai for generations.
