Karimnagar: The roar of campaign vehicles of contesting candidates from various political parties fell silent as campaigning for the municipal elections concluded at 5 pm on Monday.

Union and State ministers, MLAs, MLCs and other public representatives canvassed in favour of councillors and corporators contesting in municipalities and municipal corporations on behalf of their respective parties.

Apart from participating in roadshows and door to door campaigns, they addressed gatherings at corner meetings over the past few days. On the final day, candidates of the main political parties took out large rallies.

As part of the election campaign, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy addressed a public meeting at Gumlapur in Choppadandi mandal on February 5. Apart from district in charge minister Thummala Nageshwar Rao, other ministers N Uttam Kumar Reddy, D Sridhar Babu, Ponnam Prabhakar and Adluri Laxman Kumar participated in the campaign in the erstwhile Karimnagar district.

Union Ministers G Kishan Reddy and Bandi Sanjay Kumar also took part in the campaign. Sanjay Kumar extensively canvassed in his Karimnagar Parliamentary constituency, giving top priority to Karimnagar town.

While BRS working president KT Rama Rao canvassed in his Sircilla segment, Karimnagar MLA Gangula Kamalakar and senior party leader B Vinod Kumar campaigned in Karimnagar town, and Huzurabad legislator Padi Kaushik Reddy in his segment.

MIM leaders, including its national president and MP Asaduddin Owaisi and Chandrayangutta MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi, participated in public meetings in Karimnagar.

A peculiar situation prevailed in Jagtial following a rift between senior Congress leader T Jeevan Reddy and local MLA Dr Sanjay Kumar. While Jeevan Reddy campaigned in favour of his followers who contested as independents after being denied party tickets, Sanjay Kumar canvassed for the victory of his supporters contesting on behalf of the Congress party.
