Hyderabad: The ‘Shab-e-Barat’, the night of deliverance that falls on the 15th day of the Hijri calendar month of Shabaan, will be observed by Muslims on Tuesday night.

The occasion commemorates Prophet Mohammed’s entry into the holy city of Mecca. Muslims across the world revere the night as an occasion of atonement.

During the pious night, devotees begin preparations for Ramzan and seek forgiveness for their sins. Special prayers and sermons will be held at various mosques in the city.

A huge turnout of devotees is expected at the historic Mecca Masjid, Jamia Masjid, Musheerabad, Vazir Ali Mosque at Fateh Darwaza, Jamia Masjid Jafaria at Sanathnagar, Azizia Masjid at Mehdipatnam and Jamia Masjid at Mahboob Chowk, among other places.

Religious meetings are also planned at Milad Grounds at Khilwat, Moghalpura playground and Quli Qutb Shah Stadium, where eminent religious scholars will address the gatherings.

As part of the tradition, people visit graveyards and remember their dear ones. Authorities have cleaned burial grounds ahead of the occasion and arranged temporary lighting to facilitate the movement of visitors. Wild vegetation and garbage were removed from these places. Senior GHMC officials supervised the works.

Meanwhile, community elders have urged parents not to allow underaged children to drive motorcycles and cars. They also appealed to youngsters to spend more time in mosques offering namaz or reading the Quran rather than roaming on roads, disturbing peace and causing nuisance in residential areas.
