Karimnagar: Konduru Ravinder Rao, Chairman, National Federation of State Cooperative Banks Limited (NAFSCOB), has been inducted into the governing council of Lucknow-based Bankers Institute of Rural Development (BIRD) as member.

At the BIRD’s 50th governing council meeting held in Lucknow on Tuesday, Ravinder Rao was inducted into the governing council headed by NABARD Chairman GR Chinthala. Tamil Nadu Agriculture University Vice-Chancellor Dr N Kumar and Director of Institute of Rural Management Anand (IRMA) Dr Umakanth Dash were also inducted.


Other members of the council include RBI Deputy Governor MD Patra, Nabard Deputy Managing Director PVS Surya Kumar, Nabard former CGM JC Mishra, Government of India’s former Secretary Ajay Mittal, Utkarsh Small Finance Bank CEO and MD Govind Singh, retired IAS Rajeev Kapoor, Virutcham Academy for Social Changers CEO Dr N Jayaseelan, former JNU professor Dr Dipankar Gupta, Executive Director Sa-Dhan, New Delhi, Pillariseth Satish and BIRD Director Shankar A Pande.

The BIRD is a subsidiary of Nabard which imparts training to employees of commercial banks, regional rural banks and cooperative banks across the country. It is a prestigious institute involved in a lot of research and analysis work giving inputs for business development and skill development to individuals to help them excel in the banking sector. The focus is mostly on rural development and the financial inclusion of the rural masses.

Ravinder Rao is the first chairman of NAFSCOB to be inducted into the BIRD as governing council member. Incidentally, Ravinder Rao was earlier elected unanimously as the director of the International Cooperative Banking Association (ICBA), one of the sectorial organisations of the International Cooperative Alliance (ICA).
