Nagarkurnool: Farmers from Mahadevanipeta village in Bijinapally mandal staged a protest on Tuesday, demanding an uninterrupted power supply at adequate voltage for agricultural activities. Raising slogans against the Congress government, they blocked the village’s main road.
The farmers complained that power supply to their fields had been severely disrupted over the past three days. They said they had invested heavily in cultivating maize, cotton, paddy and black gram during the current season and expressed concern over frequent power outages at a crucial stage of crop growth, with their crops nearing harvest.
They further alleged that the six to eight hours of power supplied daily was accompanied by low voltage, affecting irrigation and damaging agricultural pump sets. Repeated appeals to local electricity department staff had failed to resolve the issue, they said, forcing them to stage the protest to protect their crops.
On learning about the protest, police and electricity department officials reached the spot and urged the farmers to call off their agitation.
