Nalgonda: Nalgonda Municipal Council chairman Mandadi Saidi Reddy on Saturday said that Nalgonda town would turn beautiful with the development works being taken up. Speaking at the Municipal Council meeting, Saidi Reddy said plans worth Rs 10 crore were prepared for development and beautification works in the town. In addition to this, street lights, CC roads and drinking water supply facilities would be provided to the new colonies coming up on the town outskirts.

Saidi Reddy said road repair works were being taken up in some areas where roads were dug for laying cable lines and underground drainage systems and in town, road repairs would start shortly. He pulled up officials when it was pointed out that three or four waste collection tractors broke down in the last few months. He asked officials to send the tractors for service every Saturday.

Suspecting a scam in tax collection by the municipality officials, municipal councilor Abhimanyu Srinivas said that there were 48,000 household water connections in the town and Rs 48 lakhs should be collected as water bills per month. But, the water bill collection was reported as Rs one lakh per month. He pointed out that records and bill books were also missing from the municipal office. He said a CCTV camera installed in the revenue department room was always not functioning.

Irrespective of political affiliations councilors of several wards strongly opposed the proposal placed before the Council meeting for approval of payment of Rs 8.9 lakh to an agency for catching stray dogs. They demanded an inquiry into the matter pointing out that the number of stray dogs caught was not convincing.
