Nalgonda: Leaders of Dalit organisations on Monday performed ksheerabhisekham to the portrait of Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao at Clock Tower Centre in Nalgonda for announcing the Dalit Empowerment Scheme.
Nalgonda MLA Kancherla Bhupal Reddy, Nalgonda Municipal Chairman Mandadi Saidi Reddy, Vice Chairman Abbagoni Ramesh, Nalgonda Market Committee chairman Burra Sudhakar and TRSV district coordinator Jilla Shanker were among the leaders who participated in the programme.
Speaking on the occasion, Bhupal Reddy said the State government was committed to the uplift of dalits and took up several schemes in this direction. “It has also taken up works for development of dalit colonies under SC sub-plan. To provide educational facilities to dailt students, the State government launched a large number of residential schools and colleges in the last six and half years,” he said, adding that education was key to the development of people of any caste. In the first phase, 100 families from each Assembly constituency would reap the benefits under the Dalit Empowerment Scheme and they should utilise the scheme, he said.
Stating that the scheme will change the lives of Dalit youth in the State, Jilla Shanker said each unit would get Rs 10 lakhs financial help which would help Dalit youth create employment for themselves and achieve financial and societal development. In addition to running residential schools and college, the State government was extending Rs 20 lakh, he said, adding that successive government in undivided Andhra Pradesh considered Dalits as vote bank and diverted the funds of SC sub-plan for other purposes. “Dalits are getting the fruits of welfare schemes meant for them in Telangana only after 2014,” he added.
