Nalgonda: The biennial elections of Nalgonda local authorities constituency turned interesting after efforts of ruling party TRS for an unanimous election of the party candidate MC Koti Reddy, did not fructify. The groupism in the Congress and lack of unity among the MPTCs of Opposition parties also came to light with the local authorities MLC elections.
After withdrawal of the nominations, seven candidates including TRS candidate M Koti Reddy remained in the fray. Though the TRS district leadership managed to convince six independent candidates for withdrawal of their nominations to pave way for unanimous elections of Koti Reddy, Bhongir MP Komati Reddy reportedly played a crucial role in spoiling their efforts.

The groupism in the Congress also made the party leadership not to support any candidate in the elections. Congress ZPTC of Alair Dr Nagesh, who has support of a TPCC leader filed nomination, and Nalgonda ZPTC Venguri Lakshmaiah (Congress), who is a close aide of Venkat Reddy also filed nomination. Though the two Congress ZPTCs claimed they were filed nomination as per the decision of Panchayat Raj Chamber, they made vain effort to get a statement from the Congress as the party supported candidate.
Filing of nomination by four MPTCs, who belong to Congress, also seems to have led to division of the votes of Congress elected representatives. Out of 1,271 electors of the constituency, more than 800 ZPTCs, MPTCs, MPPs, municipal chairpersons and Councilors belong to the ruling TRS.
The Congress had a strength of just 256 electors. Though the victory of Koti Reddy appears to be inevitable, Komatireddy Venkat Reddy took it as a prestigious issue and succeeded in avoiding unanimous election of the ruling party candidate. But senior Congress leaders K Jana Reddy, N Uttam Kumar Reddy and Ramreddy Damodar Reddy remained tight-lipped on the LAC MLC elections. Nalgonda Local Authorities Constituency elections of Legislative Council likely to be conducted with camp politics after decades.
