Nalgonda: ZPTCs, MPPs and elected representatives expressed their ire at officials from Road and Buildings department at the Zilla Parishad general body meeting here over the bad condition of roads that were causing accidents and claiming several lives.
During a discussion on works of Roads and Buildings department, Miryalaguda MLA N Bhaskar Rao at one stage, warned Superintendent Engineer of R&B to file a case holding him responsible for deaths of eight persons in accidents, which have taken place on Miryalaguda-Suryapet road. He pointed out that eight persons died on the road in a month due to potholes and damages. He expressed his anger at the officials for showing negligence in repairing damaged roads.
Bhongir MP Komatireddy Venkat Reddy said that five persons died in road accidents on Kanagal-Devarakonda road in a month. Damaged roads were causing accidents. In some places, the road was not suitable for travelling on motorcycles. It was unfortunate that repairing of the roads were not taken up for the last two years. At least, R and B should fill the potholes on the road, he added.
Devarakonda MLA Ravindra Kumar Naik said that though the State government has sanctioned road works, the negligence of the contractors was causing delay in laying of the roads. He questioned as to why the officials of R&B department were fearing to the contractors and not taking action against them.
Munugode MPP Karnati Swamy said that about 11 persons died in road accidents on Mall-Gurrampode road due to its bad condition. Rain water was stagnating in potholes on the road. The R and B officials should take up the repairing of damaged roads to save the lives of the people, he added.
