Nalgonda: Superintendent of Police A V Ranganath on Saturday instructed the police officials to work with commitment and dedication to achieve the target of turning Nalgonda into a ganja-free district.
Speaking at a meeting with the police officials here, Ranganath said the State government was very serious about smuggling and sale of ganja which was affecting the lives of the youth. The youth, who get addicted to ganja, are getting involved in anti-social activities under its influence, he pointed out, adding that the development and future of the country depends on the youth.
Stating that ganja sale had spread at the village level also, he underlined the need to improve communication system from field level constables to officials to root out the menace. The police should mingle with the people that would help in getting information from them, he added. After arrest of ganja peddlers and seizing the narcotics, police officials should take up in depth investigation to get to the root of the illegal business, he added.
As a part of a drive to turn Nalgonda into a ganja-free district, the police should frequently take up search of pan shops and kirana stores. He made it clear that political interference in ganja cases would not be tolerated and that police should act seriously on ganja smuggling and sale.
He also appreciated the district police team which has taken up anti-ganja operation in Andhra-Odisha Boarder area. It has shown its prowess in cracking ganja rackets, he added.
SP(DTC) Sathish Chodagiri, Additional SP Narmadha, Deputy Superintendents of Police Venkateshwar Reddy, Anand Reddy, Venkateshwar Rao, Ramana Reddy and others were also attended the meeting.
