Nallavagu project turns surplus after heavy rains in Medak

The Nallavagu irrigation project at Sirgapur turned surplus after heavy rainfall in its catchment area, benefiting farmers in Sangareddy and Kamareddy districts. Water was released into both canals, while the Pocharam dam and Ghanpur anicut continued to overflow due to persistent rains.

Medak: Yet another medium irrigation project has been filled to the brim, bringing smiles back to farmers in Sangareddy and Kamareddy districts. The Nallavagu project, built across the Nallavagu stream at Sirgapur, became surplus on Wednesday morning following heavy rains in its catchment area over the last few days.

The project, which has a storage capacity of 746 MCFt, irrigates over 6,500 acres of ayacut in Sangareddy and Kamareddy districts. As the project was receiving 1,500 cusecs of water, Narayankhed MLA Patlolla Sanjeeva Reddy released water into both the left and right bank canals on Wednesday morning, while the remaining water flowed over the weir.
