Borancha: Finance Minister T Harish Rao on Monday said that Narayankhed Assembly constituency, one of the most backward constituencies in Telangana, will get irrigation water from the Basaveshwara Lift Irrigation Project (BLIP).
Addressing a gathering after launching the survey works for BLIP, proposed as part of Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme (KLIS), at Borancha in Manoor Mandal on Monday, Harish Rao said BLIP will provide irrigation water to 1.31 lakh acre covering most parts of Narayankhed constituency and a couple of mandals in Andole constituency too.
“Ramteertha and Dudyala Lift Irrigation projects will also be part of BLIP which will help in supplying irrigation water to Kangti mandal located at 550 meters above sea level,” he said.
Directing the irrigation authorities to take the views of farmers and local elected representatives to provide irrigation water to each and every Assembly constituency, the Minister said that they will work to bring each and every acre under cultivation.
Stating that 20 TMC of water from Mallanna Sagar would be supplied to Singur Project every rainy season, Harish Rao said 8 TMC of water would be utilised for BLIP while the remaining 12 TMC will be utilised through Sangameshwara Lift Irrigation Scheme (SLIP), which covers the remaining parts of Sangareddy district.
“Since the government is planning to provide irrigation water to 40,000 acres in Narayankhed constituency through gravitation from 19 and 19A packages of KLIS, we will be able to provide irrigation water to about 1.40 lakh acres in total in Narayankhed area,” he said.
Though Manjira flows through Narayankhed constituency and Singur constructed in Sangareddy district, the Minister said the people of the constituency never benefited from it because the past governments had supplied water to Hyderabad from Singur. He instructed the irrigation officials to get the survey works completed within two months so that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao can be invited to Borancha to lay the foundation stone for the project.
When local MLA Mahareddy Bhupal Reddy requested Harish Rao to consider stabilising the ayacut under Nallavagu, a medium sized irrigation project constructed across Nallavagu stream, the Minister asked the irrigation officials to prepare proposals to release KLIS water into Nallavagu under BLIP. He further said that they will impound all the tanks with Godavari water besides making the streams perennial by releasing water into streams.
Legislative Council Protem Chairman V Bhupal Reddy, MP BB Patil, MLA Andole Chanti Kranthi Kiran, Zilla Parishad Chairperson P Manjusri, and others were present.
