Warangal: Narsampet bandh called by the BRS in protest against the removal of ex-MLA Peddi Sudharshan Reddy’s statue was successful and passed off peacefully on Wednesday.

Municipal officials along with police removed the statue of the MLA that was installed on private land opposite the Government Medical College in Narsampet on August 10, late Monday night, triggering serious protests by BRS cadres.

Following this, former Minister Errabelli Dayakar Rao called for a Narsampet constituency bandh; responding to the call, various business communities, educational institutions and others extended voluntary support to the bandh. RTC services were partially affected.

BRS party cadres took out massive rallies in Narsampet town and other parts of the constituency. Heavy police deployment was made to prevent any untoward incidents in Narsampet, while several BRS leaders were put under house arrest in Warangal and Hanamkonda.

Speaking to the media, BRS leaders Dasyam Vinay Bhaskar, Nannapuneni Narender, Dayakar Rao and others described the removal of Sudharshan Reddy’s statue as a barbaric act.

By removing the statue overnight, the Revanth Reddy government and Narsampet MLA Donthi Madhava Reddy have once again demonstrated their vindictive nature, they said.

The mere presence of Sudharshan Reddy’s statue in Narsampet was causing the Congress government and its leaders to break into a sweat. The Congress leaders might have removed his statue, but they could not erase the affection the people of Narsampet hold for him in their hearts, the BRS leaders asserted.

The leaders thanked the public in the constituency for supporting the bandh and making it a success by overcoming government restrictions and police arrests.
