US short-seller Hindenburg Research which exposed Adani deals shuts shop

Hyderabad: Short-seller Nate Anderson, who gained popularity with his campaigns targeting big shots like Gautam Adani, Carl Icahn, and Jack Dorsey, said he is disbanding his company Hindenburg Research.
Anderson made news internationally in January 2023 when he published a research report on Adani accusing him of ‘pulling the largest con in corporate history.’ The company also released reports on Dorsey’s Block Inc. and Icahn’s Icahn Enterprises.
Short selling involves borrowing a security whose price you think will fall and then sell it on the open market, planning to repurchase the same stock later for a lower price, return the borrowed stock to the broker, and pocket the difference.
In a post on his website, he speaks about his decision to disband the company ‘now’.
“There is not one specific thing—no particular threat, no health issue, and no big personal issue. Someone once told me that at a certain point a successful career becomes a selfish act. Early on, I felt I needed to prove some things to myself. I have now finally found some comfort with myself, probably for the first time in my life. I probably could have had it all along had I let myself, but I needed to put myself through a bit of hell first. The intensity and focus has come at the cost of missing a lot of the rest of the world and the people I care about. I now view Hindenburg as a chapter in my life, not a central thing that defines me.”
Anderson also says he will now focus on making sure everyone in his team lands where they want to be next. He also thanked his wife and said he is forever grateful for all the sacrifices she did for him.
“Lastly, I want to express how grateful I am to our readers. Your messages of kindness and encouragement through the years have gone a long way to help give us the strength to continue. And it constantly reminds me that the world is filled with good. Thank you for all of it—I couldn’t ask for more. It is all a blessing”, says the Hindenburg founder.
Recently, Republican lawmaker Rep Lance Gooden, a member of the House Judiciary Committee, in a letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland asked the US Department of Justice to preserve all records in connection with the “selective prosecution” of billionaire industrialist Gautam Adani and his group of companies by the Biden administration. The demand comes less than a week before the Donald Trump administration takes office.
