Visakhapatnam: President of All India Kisan Sabha and CPM central committee member Ashok Dhawale has urged the working class and farmers to make all efforts to protect the Visakhapatnam steel plant, for privatisation of the steel plant would lead to other public sector
undertakings in the country also meeting the same fate.
Addressing a media conference here on Sunday, the CPM leader who was in the city to attend a rally on the beach road for the cause of Vizag steel plant, noted that barring the BJP, all political parties in the state were jointly fighting for protection of the steel plant which was achieved after 32 persons sacrificed their lives. In the past seven years, the Modi government was busy serving on a platter to the private sector, all the PSUs, the railways, telecom, education, health, insurance, ports and airports.
Thanks to Modi policy, the top 140 corporates in the country could make 596 million dollars even during COVID times, he alleged. “The entire country is fighting the anti-people’s policies of Modi government which has hiked even the prices of fertilisers, diesel, and gas,” he pointed out.
Spokesperson of Bharatiya Kisan Union Rakesh Singh Tikait said that lakhs of farmers who were fighting at the Delhi-level for minimum support price, would express solidarity with the working class opposing privatisation of heavy industries.
The Vizag steel plant was purely local people’s wealth as it hd come up on the lands of local farmers and therefore belonged to them, he remarked. While the farmers and the working classes were fighting for Vizag steel plant, the people in the entire country were aware how the Central government at Delhi was serving only the interests of the business class, he alleged.
Former minister for agriculture in the state Vadde Sobhanadreswara Rao said that the north Andhra people had been fervenly appealing to the Centre for the past 65 days not to sell away the Vizag steel plant to private players. Modi had already sold away 23 PSUs and was busy serving the Adani and Ambani families, he alleged. It was a pity that Modi who promised to double the income of the farmers, had not bothered to address the issue of farmers who had been fighting for the past 143 days against the farms bills and in support of minimum
support price for their produce.
Punjab state Kisan leader Balkaran Singh, Al India Agriculture Farmers’ Sangham president B. Venkat, Ukku Parirakshana Porata Committee president Ch. Narasinga Rao and others were present.
