Hyderabad: The National Lok Adalat will be conducted across the State on September 13, where disputes or cases can be resolved with mutual consent in the presence of legal experts, officials, and non-official members.

Matrimonial, maintenance, harassment, and domestic violence cases, along with civil disputes, compoundable criminal cases, and cases under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, etc., can be settled via the Lok Adalat without any fees or expenses, a press release said.

For cases pending before courts, parties or one of the parties may make an application to the court to refer the case to Lok Adalat for settlement. If the court is prima facie satisfied that there are chances of settlement, it will refer those cases to the Lok Adalat.

Litigants may approach legal services institutions in the nearest court complex for case settlement through Lok Adalat. It added that parties may also approach the District Legal Services Authority or the State Legal Services Authority for settlement of cases at the pre-litigation stage, i.e. cases that have not yet gone to courts.
