Hyderabad: Needing a win to qualify to the knock-out stage, Hyderabad committed hara-kiri in their final Elite A league match as they lost to lowly Tripura by 18 runs to bow out of the Senior National women’s cricket tournament in Surat on Saturday.

Riding on RR Sinha’s 83 not out and opener Mouchaity Debnath’s 71, Tripura, who were put into bat, posted a challenging 239/5 in 50 overs. Chasing 240 runs for victory, Hyderabad, who were topping the table and needed a win to qualify, were stopped at 221/9 in 40 overs.

Veteran Mamtha Kanojia made a valiant 83 (132 balls, 9×4) and added 103 runs for the fourth wicket with Anuradha Nayak (44) to keep Hyderabad in the hunt. But once the two batters were dismissed, Hyderabad’s challenge ended. Hyderabad finished their campaign with three wins and two losses.
