Hyderabad: Internal differences within the Congress over the induction of leaders from other parties surfaced once again on Friday, with Congress workers from Nawabpet mandal staging a protest at Gandhi Bhavan against turncoat MLA Kale Yadaiah.
The protesters accused the MLA, who had joined the Congress from the BRS, of sidelining long-time party workers and interfering in organisational appointments. According to the protesting leaders, former Thimmireddypalli sarpanch Sama Venkat Reddy was issued an appointment order as the Nawabpet Mandal Congress president on May 12. However, they alleged that MLA Kale Yadaiah subsequently obstructed his appointment.
They further alleged that the MLA pressured the party leadership to appoint a leader from his own faction, who had also defected from the BRS, as the mandal president instead. The protesters said grassroots Congress workers were unhappy that a recently inducted leader had been considered for the post of Mandal Congress president soon after being appointed as Gudimalkapur Director.
Demanding that the party leadership intervene, Congress workers staged a dharna outside Gandhi Bhavan, raising slogans of “MLA Kale Yadaiah Hatao, Congress Bachao”. They also burnt an effigy of the MLA during the protest.
Last month, Congress leaders from Zaheerabad also protested against constituency in-charge and former minister Chandrashekhar, who had joined the Congress from the BRS ahead of the 2023 Assembly elections. Those leaders alleged that Chandrashekhar was giving preference to his followers in appointments to party posts. The dispute eventually reached Gandhi Bhavan, where supporters from both sides engaged in heated arguments.
