Nearly 14,000 passengers caught without valid tickets during SCR checks

The South Central Railway realised Rs 1.28 crore in revenue during a three‑day intensive ticket‑checking drive across its zone from August 24 to 26. Nearly 14,000 passengers were found travelling without valid tickets, while others faced penalties for littering, smoking and unauthorised hawking.

Hyderabad: The South Central Railway (SCR) conducted a three-day intensive ticket checking drive across the zone from August 24 to 26, ahead of the festival and holiday season.

During the drive, officials detected 13,964 passengers travelling without valid tickets or irregularly, besides 1,189 passengers carrying unbooked luggage. The drive generated Rs 1.28 crore in ticket checking revenue.

Officials also booked cases against 37 passengers for littering, collecting Rs 6,400 in penalties, while five unauthorised hawkers were fined Rs 10,000.

Seven passengers were found smoking on railway premises and were penalised.

Ticket checking staff also counselled passengers on the need to carry valid tickets and follow railway rules.Passengers were sensitised about fire risks from smoking and the importance of maintaining cleanliness at stations and on trains.
